In the case of the ball in a circular table with elastic collisions, as the ball bounces off the walls an inner circle is created through which the ball never travels. Each and every time that the ball is crossing the table it skims this circle but never passes through it. In fact it is a tangent to this circle. This circle is called a caustic.
